Edward Hirt Family Tree

 

 

Edward Hirt was the seventh child of Casper and Fannie Vogt Hirt. He was born in Riley Township, at the family h­­­omestead on SR 412. He completed commercial and civil engineering coursees and graduated the head of his class at Ohio Northern University in 1888. On December 24, 1889 he married Carrie Black of Ada, Ohio. They had four children Verena Wibson, Ethel Christy, Robert and Vincent who died at the age of two. Ed was secretary treasurer of Swint - Reineck Copany and a leader in business, civic, church and fraternal life for more than a quarter of a century.

Ed was treasurer of the Methodist church for more than 25 years and was a faithful and devoted member of the church. He was director of the Chamber of Commerce; trustee of the Memorial Hospital and director of Oakwood Cemetery. He was a member of the Exchange Club and charter member of the Rotary Club. At one time he was the deputy county auditor under his brother Sam Hirt. Fraternal affliations were many, exalted ruler of the Elks, 32nd degree Mason belonging to York and Scottish Rite and Zenobia Temple Shrine of Toledo, Ohio.

A man of quiet tastes, Mr. Hirt was unassuming and did his many duties with efficiency. He was loyal to his friends, devoted to his family and an exexcutive and workman whose dependability and reliability were widely known.

Edward died unexpectedly May 7, 1933 following a heart attack at his home 315 S. Arch Street. Carrie joined him July 17, 1942. Both are buried on the Hirt plot in Oakwood Cemetery.
